Works the way phones already work
The tag holds one private link. Tapping it opens the card page, and the page hands the phone a standard contact file it already knows how to save.
iPhone
iPhone XS and newer read the card from the lock screen. The contact opens as a Create New Contact sheet.
Android
Any Android phone with NFC switched on opens the card in its browser and saves to Contacts.
Every other phone
Print the card's QR code on the back. Any phone camera opens the same page.
Private unless you hand it over
Each firm gets its own address, such as /s/your-firm. It shows nothing at all to anyone without a card.

- The link on each tag ends in a 192-bit key made for that card alone. Without the exact link there is no way in, and repeated guessing gets an address locked out.

- Card pages are never indexed by search engines, never cached, and never tell the sites they link to where the visitor came from.

- Switch a card off or rotate its key and the old link stops working immediately, including on tags already handed out.

- Keys are kept as one-way hashes for lookups and encrypted with AES-256-GCM for your admins. Portal sessions live on the server and can be revoked.

Questions firms ask
Does the person tapping need an app?
No. iPhone XS and newer read the card straight from the lock screen, and Android phones with NFC switched on open it in the browser. Older phones can scan the QR code printed on the back.
What happens when someone leaves the firm?
Turn their card off or rotate its key in the portal. The old tag stops working the same second, and you can write a new link to the same physical card for their successor.
Can we program the cards ourselves?
Yes. Open a card in the portal on an Android phone with Chrome, tap Write to tag and hold the tag to the back of the phone. Apple doesn't let websites write tags, so on iPhone you copy the link into a free app such as NFC Tools.
Which tags work?
Any NTAG213, NTAG215 or NTAG216 card, sticker or key fob. A card link is about 70 bytes, well within the 144 bytes of the smallest NTAG213.
Could someone overwrite a tag we hand out?
Tags stay rewritable until you lock them. The portal can lock a tag right after writing it. Details still change freely afterwards, because they live on the card page, not on the tag.
